Niagara Falls webcam

Installing the Niagara Falls WebcamAt times it seemed like the Falls was going to beat me, but with lots of help from Ray at the Niagara Falls State Park we got the webcam on the Hurricane Deck at Cave of the Winds going today. It's a 700 foot outdoor cable run from the deck where we put the camera to the exit of the elevator tunnel. From there it's another 200 feet through the elevator tunnel and 185 feet up the elevator shaft to get onto the Internet. There were some technical challenges with the distance, the humidity, the constant mist from the American Falls and I have to say it is satisfying to have overcome them all. Although not a technical issue, I also pushed through the fear of falling off a ladder on a wooden deck in the middle of the rapids at the bottom of the American Falls.

I'll get to do it all over again next spring since they dismantle and rebuild the decks every year because of the ice that forms at the bottom of the falls in the winter. I'm ready to tackle it again though - let's see if we can actually stream video from this awesome spot next year. If you haven't done the Cave of the Winds trip you really should - it's amazing.
